Frequently Asked Questions

q. what's the difference between pawning and selling?

This is our number one most asked question ever, and it's a super simple answer. When you sell an item to us, you are getting rid of it. Done. Gone. Goodbye. We'll buy the item from you for cash and resell it in our shop. Simple enough, right? Pawning, however, is a little different. When you pawn an item to us you are technically borrowing money from us. No credit check. No hassle. You bring an item in and we'll make you a loan based on its value. If you decide to come back to redeem your merchandise and pay back the loan, we will give you the item back.

q. how long does it take to sell an item at pocket pawn?

We can usually have you in and out within *10 minutes. We'll take a look at your item, make an offer, test your item, do the paperwork and hand you cash. It's a very simple process and we'll guide you through it if you are new to pawnshops. *Sometimes we get pretty busy in the shop helping customers. It should take no longer than 10 minutes from the time we start helping you to the time we hand you cash. However, if we are currently helping other customers, you're wait time might be a little longer.

q. how do you determine and item's worth?

We base our offers on the value of the item - its current appraised value, its current condition, and our ability to sell the item. We use all of the research tools we have at our disposal to determine an item's value and get you the most money we can. We take in consideration the item's retail value when it was new, its pre-owned market value, and its condition. P.S. We don't have to call in an expert to find out what its worth ;)

q. how do you determine the condition of an item?

The condition of an item is always taken into account during the appraisal process. If one iPad comes in that is in perfect condition and another iPad comes in with scratches on the screen, we will pay more for the iPad in better condition. The better the condition of the item, the more money we can pay.

q. can you give a quote on an item over the phone?

Unfortunately, we cannot give quotes over the phone. We will need to review the merchandise in person to give a loan value.

q. do pawnshops take stolen merchandise?

Less than 1/10 of one percent of items in pawnshops are identified as stolen. We work very closely with state and local authorities and require valid identification from anyone who tries to sell or pawn to us. We do not want stolen merchandise, we will not tolerate it, and we will help law enforcement with the prosecution of any person who tries to sell/pawn us stolen merchandise.

q. what kind of items do you buy?

We have quite a unique business in that we don't deal specifically with one set type of merchandise. If you go to Best Buy, you'll find electronics. If you go to Home Depot, you'll find tools. If come to Pocket Pawn, you'll find anything from electronics to tools and everything in between. If we can make money on it, we'll buy it.
